The front doors, heavy and tricky. Everyday while smoking out in the front of Arba, I would watch people getting fooled by the big double doors. I myself usually fell for it, pulling instead of pushing or mistaking the side that works. These doors are heavy enough to make you doubt your first attempt, right or wrong and, like a USB stick, you try at least two other ways until you are able to get it right. This suspension takes usually less than a second, but sometimes people are convinced the door is locked.. and some people had no trouble at all.

It was amusing to see how each person fails and reacts to this minor inconvenience. I would always pay attention to them even when talking to people. Usually the obstacle would make people a little embarrassed or a little angry, or something in between. I would think about it and them proceed to hit my head on the door myself when getting back to class. As a heavy smoker, I could see a learning curve of the door stubbornness and throughout the semester there was less resistance to this entrance. People were coming in and out with more smoothly.

In the end of the semester it seems like those obnoxious doors noticed this fluency of bodies and didn’t approved, it was getting too easy to get in. In the last few weeks before the lockdown the door gained significant weight and became even more intimidating. Now even the experienced ones were having trouble. Why? Why so obstinate? Why insist on being so rigid? I spent a lot of time at this door, going between being in and out, present or not, or sort of.
To this day I don’t know for sure if I’m actually in, I never got an answer for my appeal with the equivalence office. I’m kind of in between.

In google maps, ironically, the stupid entrance says in French: Open Doors.

This impressions are mostly about the Academy itself but my experience in ISAC was also framed by this sensation. Our course has clear oppositions with this stiffness of ARBA, our little studio feels a little bit outside. I can continue in this thoughts, make the the way into ISAC, but is what I have for now.
